Presentation

In level 2+ and level 3 automated driving systems, there is a need for a handover of control between the driver and the automated system. This talk will summarise the current state-of-the art around driver understanding in assisted driving and propose an improved fully camera-based solution for evaluating Driver Readiness.

To summarize, the talk will cover:

  • The importance of understanding the Driver Readiness level in automated driving.
  • The limits of current systems relying only on steering wheel sensors and gaze direction to determine if the driver is ready for takeover.
  • How a single camera-based software can provide a more nuanced evaluation of Driver Readiness.
