Presentation

The objective of this research is to establish a high efficiency optical interface that optimizes not only visible display performance but also near infrared (NIR) signal robustness for driver monitoring systems (DMS) integrated behind display stacks. The optical components of the display stack must be optimized for NIR band without compromising the photopic performance of the visible display. We developed an anti-reflection coating (ARC) achieving a single surface average reflectivity of ~3% in the 900~1000 nm range, while maintaining visible band reflectivity under 0.5%, ensuring no degradation in display contrast or color. Consequently, the optimized system can achieve equivalent exposure while consuming less power, which implies a reduction in either the illuminator driving current, or the total number of illuminators. This paper provides the technical details for an optimized ARC, which is a foundational requirement for high efficiency behind-display DMS architectures, enabling robust NIR imaging without compromising visible display quality.
