Driver monitoring appears to be on the cusp of widespread implementation. To date, most driver monitoring discourse and research has focused on developing technologies to identify driver states and behaviors, with less attention being given to how to use this information effectively. This workshop will focus on human factors and user-centered design challenges with driver monitoring systems, with a focus on empirical research on user-centered driver monitoring. Ultimately, we will seek to answer the question: how can knowledge of driver states be used to communicate effectively with drivers and change driver behaviours?
