Personalized Driver Alerts Powered by AI and Camera Monitoring, Delivered through HUD or Haptics

Presentation

AI-driven framework for user-specific driver alerts leveraging Camera Monitoring Systems (CMS) to continuously assess driver identity, state, and behavior. By analyzing facial features, gaze direction, head pose, and driving context, the proposed system adapts alert strategies to individual drivers rather than relying on one-size-fits-all warnings.
The framework dynamically selects the most effective alert modality—Head-Up Display (HUD) visual cues or haptic feedback—based on driver preference, attention level, and situational urgency. Subtle haptic alerts may be used for minor lane deviations, while critical safety events trigger prominent HUD warnings. Machine learning models continuously refine alert thresholds and delivery mechanisms through usage patterns, improving effectiveness while reducing nuisance alerts and driver distraction.
Experimental evaluations demonstrate that personalized alerts improve driver response time, situational awareness, and overall acceptance compared to conventional static alert systems. The proposed approach highlights the potential of AI-enabled personalization to enhance safety, comfort, and user experience in next-generation advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and intelligent vehicle cockpits.
