Software Engineer
Swarup Ray is an Automotive Software Engineer at CARIAD India, specializing in synthetic data generation for automotive AI systems and Driver Monitoring System (DMS) validation. He has designed and developed Blender-based synthetic data generation pipelines from the ground up, leading proof-of-concept (POC) development to address challenges in scalable dataset creation for in-cabin sensing. His work involves building physics-based pipelines using Blender and Unreal Engine, with a focus on near-infrared (NIR) eye modeling, corneal reflections, and pixel-accurate gaze annotation for robust model training and validation.
He holds an M. Tech in Process Control and Instrumentation from National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli and a B. Tech in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Shibpur. During his internship at Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India, he worked on electric vehicle charging optimization and power electronics modeling, contributing to improved battery performance and system efficiency.
In addition to his industry work, he has hands-on experience in robotics and autonomous systems. He designed and presented a multi-robot system for path planning and environment exploration at a technical festival at NIT Trichy, demonstrating practical implementation of SLAM and navigation algorithms.
His expertise lies in synthetic data generation, simulation-driven validation, and computer vision for automotive applications. His current work presents a reproducible Blender-based pipeline capable of generating realistic near-infrared (NIR) driver behavior data with precise annotations, enabling scalable and privacy-preserving training and benchmarking of the DMS algorithm.
