This workshop will examine empirically supported best practices for using audio to alert and inform drivers in the cabin. Pitfalls and emerging promises for using audio and multimodal (audiovisual, audiohaptic) displays in the driving HMI will be covered in detail through discussion and hands-on activities. Topics covered will include audio alerts for forward collision warnings, lane departure warnings, cross-traffic alerts, blind spot warnings, and attention/drowsiness warnings, as well as the role of sound in automated driving (e.g., take-over requests). Audio for in-vehicle communication, navigation, and infotainment interactions also will be discussed.
By engineers, for engineers: A technically grounded guide to the rapidly evolving in-cabin technology industry and companies.
