Seeing Double: Optimising In-Cabin Cameras for Machine & Human Vision

Tuesday 10th June 2025 | 10am – 1pm | Room 141

In-cabin cameras are becoming increasingly important for both enhancing user experience and enabling advanced driver and passenger monitoring systems. However, optimizing camera performance for both human and machine vision presents distinct challenges, particularly when it comes to testing and evaluation. This tutorial will focus on the key performance indicators (KPIs) and testing methodologies used to assess image quality for both human and machine vision use cases. For human vision, KPIs such as color accuracy, sharpness, and noise are critical for applications like video conferencing and selfies. For machine vision, metrics like contrast, dynamic range, and signal-to-noise ratio are essential for reliable detection of head position, drowsiness, and eye gaze under varying lighting conditions.

Led by an expert in image quality analysis and camera characterization, this session will provide attendees with a structured approach to defining, measuring, and balancing KPIs to optimize in-cabin camera systems for both human and machine vision requirements.

Audio and the HMI: Practices, Pitfalls, and Promises for Using Sound to Alert and Inform

Tuesday 10th June 2025 | 2pm – 5pm | Room 141

This workshop will examine empirically supported best practices for using audio to alert and inform drivers in the cabin. Pitfalls and emerging promises for using audio and multimodal (audiovisual, audiohaptic) displays in the driving HMI will be covered in detail through discussion and hands-on activities. Topics covered will include audio alerts for forward collision warnings, lane departure warnings, cross-traffic alerts, blind spot warnings, and attention/drowsiness warnings, as well as the role of sound in automated driving (e.g., take-over requests). Audio for in-vehicle communication, navigation, and infotainment interactions also will be discussed.

How to access these expert tutorials

All six tutorials are available with a Full Pass to InCabin or AutoSens. With this pass you will also gain access to an intimate networking lunch, the perfect opportunity to make key connections and discuss these challenges further with other experts in the field.
